Vehicle tax (Road Fund Licence) per day, not month
Responsible department: Department for Transport



Following the recent changes in vehicle tax, vehicle owners are now forced to surrender the value of the vehicle tax up until the end of the month in which they sell the vehicle.

Vehicle buyers are also forced to buy a full month, when they will not have had the use of the days preceeding the vehicle purchase.

It is also the case that the computer systems which coordinate the purchase of vehicle tax are given a concentrated workload at the end of each month. This has recently resulted in the service being unavailable.

I propose that vehicle tax should be available daily so that buyers and sellers are not short-changed, and that the systems are more able to cope with a more uniform demand.

This petition is of interest to anyone in the UK who will either buy or sell a motor vehicle.

Please rectify this unfair practice.

You could have asked for a share of the millions being saved by the new process to be given back to motorists

I'd just be grateful if they would fill in a few bloody pot holes with the money, or spend it on the road system in general rather than them giving themselves a pay rise with it :(
 
The so called new system (for the UK) has been in use over here for as long as I can remember.
We pay every 1/4 by direct debit but if you sell your car during this period, you receive a refund from the date that the registration changed hands. Works perfectly.
On a side note, the amount you pay depends on the weight of the vehicle, the type of fuel you use and in which part of the country you live. Sods law I live in the most expensive area on the west coast.

Wrong again Bad Boy as I have a British Passport and can use my parents or my brothers address in the UK. You think they are going to check where I am at the moment?
