Hi Guys and girls

Just a quick advice please. I do need to top up my power steering fluid before I can do the whole flush and filter replacement.

It does say ATF Oil Only on the top of the reservoir. Went to BMW to check for what type will it take and they generically said they use Dextron II. Any recommended place to get this type of fluid from or can I get any brand as long as is Dextron II.

Many thanks in advance :)

Yes the problem is simply follow what whoever says ahah. Will try the owners manual today. Just don't want to hear from BMW "use any dextron oil" and then go to Euro Car Parts and hear "we have this ATF oil should be fine" I need to keep my car better then "shoulds" and "we now use this on all our cars" being this last one pretty much the answer to every question I do at the dealer. My car is 16 years old and they seem to forget that I can't dive straight to what they just use now a days lol.
Thanks Tony

Sorry, I don't understand your problem here. You can't buy 16 year old oil for your 16 year old car. You get the modern equivalent ie. dexron 2, which is ATF ( automatic transmission fluid) Dexron2 is a type of oil made by many brands.

I have used Castrol Dex III for a number of years now on a ~19 year old 1.9.

Go to Opie Oils on here for recommendations or http://www.opieoils.co.uk

Main problem was in fact I didn't know that ATF was Dextron. So if I grab a litre of ATF oil should I check for any reference of Dextron II or should I assume that is the same? Thanks Tony

Dexron 2 oil is an ATF rather than the other way round, but modern oils are easily compatible with your old girl so don't worry. A bottle of either type is ok!

Will see what what I can find at Euro Car Parts. Just need to top up now and in a month time will do the full flush.
Thanks for the explanation
