Sean d progress thread

Thanks Tony, still need to do the door tops and I think white dials would also suit it now oh and ally pedals.

This would be a step too far in my opinion but hey, it's not my car and you should do what you want

@Sean d, my '96 Z has very tired seats. The driver's side has 2 or 3 splits in the leather. I think that if I were to have them repaired, it might not be worth the effort cost wise. I like the leather and I think that if I buy new leather for them and have it installed, it would be very expensive. I have done most of the work on my cars over the years but not installed new seat covers. Is this difficult to do?
As another option, I've been looking at used seats on e-bay. There are some seats available, but the best ones are from Z4s. Can a Z4 seat be installed in a Z3. If not directly, can the seat part be removed from the track and placed on the Z3 track? What about the electrical hook ups? Frankie

The seat covers are relatively easy to take off and put back on, I'm not sure about Z4 seats though, all I had replaced was a couple of the leather bolsters on one seat.

Thanks for the reply. Are there special tools needed to take the covers off and on? I thought I had seen a piece of wire the shape of a ring that holds the covers on. Is there a special tool that holds this ring? Are the seats easy to remove from the rails? Frankie

Scroll down on the attached link and you will see quite a bit of help on the subject

I ended up ordering this as it was the route that was the least expensive. In the future, I might be able to order new leather and either install it myself or have it done. I checked out the site you mentioned and it was the deciding factor to buy it. I got the seat for $100, but had to pay the shipping as it would have cost me that much in time, gas, tolls and whatever to drive down there and get it. Thanks for the help. I can always remove the old seat and bring it indoors to transfer the rails it I have to. In the mean time, I should order the seat bushes from @Aceman, Frankie

It will be interesting to see if the Z4 seat fits

Had a change of heart on the steering wheel and did the inserts in piano black today, just to cut the blue down a bit,

Like both mate. Sitting on the fence with this one. Love the chrome gear surround tho.

Like the black on the wheel Sean, I think you're right it just "tones it down a little"

Tony.

I too prefer the black as it gives a more balanced look overall. As I've said before I don't do blue cars but by jeez this could live on my driveway forever @Sean d!! Beautiful work with nothing I would change! JIM

Thanks for the kind words Jim, everytime I think its just about there, something else pops up, I still have a few more plans in the pipeline, got my ///M front bumper today so I will start the prep tomorrow :D

Can't wait to see the new bumper when it's done. I misspoke, there is that one change I'd do also!! Trying to find one here is nigh on impossible so the USA seems my only option. My bumper cover is damaged and has been repaired before so a good time to change over. JIM

Started work on the M bumper today, its had a fair bit of punishment in the past as one would expect,
First job was to sort the 2 holes for headlight wash jets, I used a piece of plastic on the back and then glued an insert on the top so it will be flush meaning minimal filler will be needed

Next was to sort the securing tabs as most had been ripped off

I then spent a couple of hours reshaping the vents as they where distorted, probably due to it been baked in a booth without the correct support, not very technical, wood, grips and a hot gun
