It's time for new outer sills. Took mine off today with the hopes of home restoration, but one is just too far gone.

Has anyone had a new set of sills painted recently? Is so, how much did the paint shop charge

have you located some replacement sills or are you repairing yours? cost is so dependent on whats needed to repair, but i would take a guess around £200 to 300

3 litre Z3 pretending to be Italian exotica. Two previous E89 Z4s.
£20 for paint and £100,000 for labour. That's the UK in 2026.

I paid £270 at at local paint shop about 18 months ago.

That was to spray a pair of new sills and also the bonnet grilles which the previous owner had painted rattle can black.

That price didn’t include removal or refitting, as I did that myself.

Had a quote from a local independent shop of £250 a few years ago.
Unfortunately he then couldn't do the job at very short notice due to family issues. As car was stripped ready, I did them myself with rattle cans.
Primer/Stone chip to lower section /undercoat x3/ top coat x3 and clear lacquer finish.
Very pleased with end result - made easier as Halfords BMW RED is a very good match for my Helrot.

I had mine repainted by a pal at work 5 years ago in return for a selection of fine local ales. One original sill was in good shape and was reused, one was a new BMW replacement.
I supplied the Atlanta Blau paint which was expertly matched by All Parts Exeter. I used Gravitex stone chip on the new sill. It looks spot on.
My top tip would be to apply corrosion prevention compound on the inside face of both sills and inner box sections while the sills are off.

Not yet. Weighing up my options.

Option 1: Do some welding repairs to the front ends of the sills and touch up with a rattle can.

Option 2: bite the bullet pay c.£400 for a new set of sills from BMW + £200-300 on paint. Although pricey it may be the best option long term!
