Sill spraying

Going to replace the rusty sills on my z3 and wonder what people’s thoughts were on the following:
I’m going to get a set from bmw and wondered whether it’s better to have them sprayed off the car or on, to help with colour matching?

It’s Montreal blue so also wondered what peoples experience of colour matching is like? Some cars/colours can be a nightmare…..

Done both with good results. All depends on the painter and their color match skills.
 
I'd go for off the car to have the sills painted as I did on my Z3 M Coupe. In that way the sill edges and inside surface can be easily painted and treated with Waxoyl (or similar). If you get them painted on the car the edges cannot be fully accessed to be painted or treated.

A decent painter should be able to match the colour OK. However it will depend on the paint condition of the adjacent panels and how faded they may be, I was fortunate in that I was getting my front and rear wings painted (off the car) and Comos Black Metallic was fairly easy to match according to my spray painter.
Have a good look at your inner sills and spend a bit of time on treating/painting them before putting new sill covers on. Loads of advice on here on what to do. :thumbsup:

Thanks, I know the inners need treating as I can see them through the big hole 🤣.

Kind of knew this is the best option, just desperate to get the car back on the road….
 
The inners on my car looked rough on first look on the lower section. Turns out it was the original underseal/coating that was cracked which made it look worse.
Pay particular attention to the jacking points, remove the pads and and use something like Bilt Hamber Deox-Gel to treat the rust.
