My first question is are all the rear brake calipers the same on the Z3 or did they fit different ones by year by engine size?

Any idea on a good source of these and good brands? I have seen some very cheap non branded stuff on ebay but very wary when it comes to brakes quality and don't want to be doing the job again in 18 months time!

The cheap Ebay ones are reconditioned originals. Bear in mind the Z3 rear calipers (same on all non-M models) are unique and are not the same as the E36 Compact. The only occasaional issue I've had is bleed screws that aren't a good fit - just fit some proper ones if needed but avoid BMW as they want about 17 quid each and they don't fit.

I use stainless steel bleed nipples from a specialist supplier who makes them for motorcycle use, but I think German and Swedish sell nomral types

I fitted stainless ones on my VTR, all the way from ebay, and they work a treat. Stainless pistons, too, no corrosion expected there.

The firm I put a link to up above (nothing to do with me, I've used them plenty of times in the past and no problems) do bleed screws, too.

If one bought recoditioned ones would you then paint over the finish with caliper paint to add not only protection but better looks?

I managed to source a genuine BMW recon one from Brakeparts.co.uk in the end who I have dealt with in the past and they don't sell rubbish..Not a lot of choice out there for rear nearside calipers at the moment
