Hi folks , has anyone purchased a spare key from any where other than bmw themselves , been told have to go thru them at the cost of £50 ?

Hi mini, to be honest I can't comment re another place to get a spare (I was lucky I got a full set of original keys with mine) but £50 is really not a big price compared to being without any key, not being able to use your car and having to wait for one on top of that. Have you tried Sopers of Lincoln for forum discount, it might make it a little sweeter?

Tony.

Cheers tony , I purchased a blank from flee bay earlier but local key cutting Bobby said no !

Not exactly on topic but ripped this from FB.......

Z3's key can be duplicated by ak90
The theory is simple. 1. Detach the EWS from the car. 2. Attach ak90 onto the chip and copy the key password. 3. write the binary file into a blank transponder inside new key by ak90. 4. Sync the remote with car.
My kind of key have infra red remote. The steps as following:
1. Get into the car
2. Close the door
3. Insert the key turn to position 2, don't start the car
4. Withdraw the key point to the mirror.
5. Press and hold unlock button
6. Press lock button 3 times
7. Release unlock button

AK90 can be found in eBay and the transponder we can find through another online shopping website... taobao.

I looked into this extensively and even wrote to the manufacturer on this. What isn't explained is that you need an EEPROM 10030A chip in the new key and you will not find that anywhere except BMW themselves! The ebay keys have a new EEPROM but your Z3 will not recognize it.

The GBP50 is about the best price you will get and I even ordered on from England cause they wants AUD295 here. The GBP50 will get you a new Master key but not with the remote function.

Hope that helps, Cooper

Try keysinthepost.com

Had a new one cut for mine last year from there as none of the local companies would even touch it. Works perfectly, only cost £12 from what I remember and took at few days but you have to send a spare one with the blank key so they can cut it.

Thanks , that might be risky tho as could get lost in post , thinks Al go back to bmw dealership safer

I only received one key with my car and I haven't a clue what to do about getting any more even after all the discussion. JIM

Buy my car, complete with ALL it's keys. But you have to come and fetch it.;)

Don't you remember sending the address a while back?? I've had the cheque made out for months now just hadn't put a name on it. You are the first to offer up their car to get me over there!! I'm glad it was you, I like green Zeds! JIM

Jim, we are going to have to meet up one day, with your sense of humour you could be my brother man. Just remember it is Oxford Green( the posh one) not Boston Green. Sorry Frankie.

What sense of humour are you talking about cuz Joan tells me I don't have one. She says one of the reasons she married me was my sense of humour so if you think I have one and others on forum think I have one the problem's got to be her. Wait till she gets home and I show her this!! And you know what comes next, right?

And then the fight started!! JIM

Sorry mate you're outta luck, my mum's name was Joan, God bless her, so whatever you dear lady says, goes.

Tony.
