Hey guys! havent been able to post anything on Zroadster because Forum Runner was down on my phone, so i decided to get on the thing called a computer and post the recent stuff I did on my Z. So far I put on ccfl angel eyes. And did a dual exhaust and muffler delete mod. I put on quad tips and had to do a makeshift cover for the muffler cutout. Am i the first ever tobdo dual on 1.9? Overall I think it looks good what you guys think! It's insanely loud but not raspy(which I don't get ) and I like the tone. One thing though when you delete the muffler you get insane popping that sounds like gunshots through deceleration and some times shifting. Someone on another forum suggested a makeshift air intake because I like fogged airbox but I want the look of an aftermarket airbox but still get that cool air. Thanks for listening an looking, you guys are the best! What mods have you guys done? :m44massive:

Oh no - a Z3 is a classic looking modern convertible - not a hellraiser!!! I'm sorry, but to me it sounds like your making a noisy nightmare instead of a cool car that "roars" from time to time, when "needed".
 
How loud is "insanely loud"? It looks a pretty good job from the photo, but I've not seen it where the exhausts are below the level of the rear bumper. Do you see any clearance issues where you are?
 
Hey Paul, crackles & pops throttle off and the odd 'pop' when shifting :coolsteer) are 'classic' style in my opinion ... many old roadsters sounded like that ... had my ECU re-mapped to put more crackles & pops in deliberately ( just a big kid really!!) ... worth the extra fuel bill!:happy:... In my view, the Z3 has just about the most boring un-roadster like exhaust note of any roadster I have ever heard and sounds like standard whispering 3 series... adding a nice throaty exhaust note is complementary to the Z3's classic styling... roadsters should be 'seen & heard' :)! ... if you like the sound Paul, great!, keep it... as long as one is considerate with ones neighbours of course ! I have an Eisenmann Quad with Magnaflow cat & mid pipes and it sounds loud and fantastically awesome! ... under normal/gentle driving, it goes through the gears with a moderate deep throated 'growling purr' ... just enough to turn some heads... then the growl turns into a race track roar when you push the revs up ... AK47 throttle off crackles & pops & a fire cracker bang when shifting up under pressure... great fun ... love it!
For the tail pipes I cut an extra slot for the 3rd & 4th pipes.. just made a template from the existing slot & cut another on the other side. (see picture)

Hi Paul, I guess a key point is that I had to lose my spare wheel to fit the quad exhaust... have you managed to keep your spare wheel with you below rear body panel method? As Gary mentioned, any issues with ground clearance? interesting idea ... never thought of that!
 
@GazHyde the exhaust is like music to me I will post you a link to the idle. Loud like when i gas it, but normal driving it could be annoying if lets say an 80yr old elderely wanted to drive, but for the spirited driver who wants to here the engine talk back its like...wwoah! give it some gas and itl talk back! i do however take into account there are people that try to sleep at a certain time so i keep the revvs low...ish ;) When I can pull up next to a car and te person looks to see what is grumbling gurgling and sounding mean, to find out its my zed is a pretty awesome experience. Ground clearance is no different feeling then before I'm totally fine the way it sits! I'm really thinking of maybe filling in the cutout to be 100% flush then vinyl wrap or paint my car. @PeterJ that is one beautiful z3 you got there. The route I am taking in my car is slightly inexpensive, but I just had to change some stuff because I want to drive and enjoy my car! Not drive a whispering m44 everywhere! At first I was worried about the crackle and pop but I'm starting to like it, brings character! But now I have to convince the lady that everything's fine it's just having a convo with us :) also yes I had to delete the spare tire. I hated the look of that thing hanging down and if I really had to bring it I'd just put it in the boot, had no issues taking the rack off either. Also @PeterJ I noticed your zed had emblem delete? Do they just peel off?
 
@GazHyde @PeterJ :m44massive: also I'm getting my whalen shift machine in the mail today! Il post some more pics as the mods keep coming. Was also wondering if those eBay roll hoops are worth it? There 150 USD And they say they are basically plug and play. I was thinking if I got them powder coated a satin black or silver, would look real nice. Any thoughts?

I respect your opinion! Any feedback is great thanks :) with that said, my goal is to make it a "roadster" andwhat that is in my opinion is something that can be heard, is appealing to the eye and makes me want to drive it every single day!
 
@GazHyde music to my ears! Between the 1.9 and 2.0 is tere much of a power difference between the 2 cars? And I'm posting my idle video as we speak
 
@GazHyde this is before I made the makeshift cutout so it may look a little goofy with the cutout not covered but nonetheless! This is what my dual exhaust to quad tips with muffler delete sounds like at idle and low rev

Hi Paul, I am not sure if you can remove a long attached 'Z3' emblem without damaging the paint work??? ... I have heard that hot water will remove it (glued on) and a good T cut/polish to blend it in. I had my Z3 repainted in the original colour (Violet Red) and have a new Z3 badge, but just can't decide if it looks better on or off ... perhaps off... For the Roll Hoops, plenty of people have chrome after market ones which I think are easy to fit ...personally I don't like the chrome roll hoops coz they are too 'soft rounded' shape & I don't think chrome works that high up in the car (I got my standard roll hoops trimmed in leather). I think chrome touches are great, but for my taste, only when surrounded by dark paint work (for contrast) eg. Chrome door handles, lights, front grill, perhaps wheels...

True! And I think that the badge delete looks great! Today I spent about 6 hours replacing my center console to a satin brush finish I match with my whalen shift machine and here's the finished product. I think it pops out the whole console! I also reset my service light and for some reason my car seems to be running way better... Let me know what you guys think! I wouldn't really want chrome wheels or chrone roll hoops as I like the satin or flat tones so I would probably powder coat them!

Use a hair dryer to warm the badge and ease it off.
You will find one in your tool kit along with curling tongues.

You can also use dental floss to carefully cut through the sticky foam it's mounted on when its warmed up.

May be left with a slightly discoloured area in the paint, but a good buffing should sort it.
 
very nice Paul... I started with the same console & did some chopping & changing... there are many possibilities with this console ... just a question of how far you want to go... here is what I did anyway :cool: great fun!

it is important not to disconnect the clock coz it has other functions, so I hid it behind the console!! (still connected)
