Steering wheels?

I think you need to know whether its a stage 1 or stage 2 air bag

The wording on the M sport wheel says it's a single stage air bag, and I'm fairly sure that your is a single stage...

Looks like it could be ok, but would confirm from the seller it's definitely single stage. It would be changing to a two stage air bag that would be a problem!

What year is your car ? I've put that same steering wheel on my car i had the old type like yours which is stage 1 and the M wheel was off a 99 Z i think pre 99 were all stage 1 anyway it was a straight swap

Ok thanks mines a 97 pre-facelift. What would be the problems of installing a 2 stage if it was the case, and how do I tell a 2 stage from a 1 stage? Thanks

My car is also a 97 and from what I've been told its a real hassle better off just getting a stage 1 wheel sorry don't know how to tell the difference

You can fit a 2 stage wheel to a single stage Z3 (pre 04/99 production) if you want a mangled face !

The two stage system has a low impact (1 small explosion) and high impact (1 small explosion followed by a delayed larger explosion) to deploy the airbag. No matter how you wire this to a single stage system the deployment of the airbag will be wrong and either not be strong enough or too strong and timed wrong.

You can fit a single stage airbag though to a two stage system by just bridging the high impact circuit. As the low impact circuit is fired in all cases the single stage airbag will deploy as designed.

Hope that clarifies why ?

To clear up the original question, both steering wheels pictured are E36 steering wheels and will fit the Z3 as a straight swap, there are numerous styles for the E36 have a look on RealOEM ande all E36 versions will fit the Z3. The difference on non E36 steering wheels is the slip ring.

I have both of these steering wheels in my garage plus a third in brand new napa and tri stitch fitted to the Zed. (All have been on the car at some point.

Hi Where can I purchase a reasonably priced steering wheel Boss?£85.00@ Demon tweeks seems a bit steep>
Regards Ron.

Anyone know if an E46 sport wheel would fit a z3?

The factory steering wheel is such a let down on these, but I think it is more that that wheel itself is thin rather than the size.

I got a retrimmed wheel from http://royalsteeringwheels.com/ and it has transformed the car.

It was £115 as I had the M colour stitching and mixed leather, but what a bargain.

He will use a wheel in stock and then you can send yours back when the new one arrives.

Got mine done a couple of years back by Jack and it's still looking in excellent condition (apart from two self inflicted scuffs). Takes a few months for the wheel to lose it's shiny greyish look, now mine looks like it's always been on the car...

One of the best mods for the money!

Hi I,m really after a smaller diameter wheel but having problems trying to figure out how to get the horn button powered up All suggestions gratefully received Happy motoring Ron.
