Stereo change

(a tap from cig lighter to the blue/white 'power' wire on harness), but all it seems to be doing now is shorting fuses like window wipers/jets :(!

Its the problem...

If you go to the first page of this thread there is a diagram that someone had put up and a picture of the stereo/wiring. The stereo would be fine because even when i had the stereo working firstly when i had it wired from cig lighter to the blue/white wire, i had sent that back because i thought it wasn't working and they sent me a pic back showing it worked fine, but they sent a replacement anyway, so this again is a new unit. I also dont have an amp its the model without one.

Thankfully the manufacturer has sent you a new unit! Hopefully now you'll be able to get things sorted and working properly. Nice you've stuck this out, congrats! JIM

Just to prove the unit is working ok you could connect both the red and the yellow wire to the cig lighter feed and the black to an earth point. At least you would know that the unit is ok then you could try to find the problem with the original wiring.

So the red wire should be the "switched" live wire to turn the unit on/off and the yellow wire should be the "permanent" live to store the settings.

Tony.

So seen as my cig lighter seems to be a perm live, shall I patch that to the yellow wire and patch a wire from the ignition to the red one for switched?

If so, what wire on the ignition should i use? colours or a diagram for that answer would be a mega help :bag:

Or was just thinking, I assume the electric windows are going to be switched live, could say a patch from the drivers side button be enough for the switched wire to the red?

Yes that should do it Andy, did you ever find the cause for no live wires at the original BMW audio plug? Just curious,

Tony.

No i didnt actually @t-tony ! Shes been a bit of a nightmare of late.

So just to be crystal before i have a go later... patch in as above straight to these bullet connectors on the red and yellow in the below picture?

Good on you for your not rushing in and connecting before confirming you have it correct! Hang in there, you'll soon have music! JIM
