can anyone tell me how the two pieces of plastic that make up the rear alarm light and roof switch holder fit together? I have tried all sorts but they still never "properly" fit together. Am I missing a part...is there 3 pieces or something like that?

This is the annoying item...:banghead:

I remember helping my brother with his and what a pain it was but can't remember how we got it to fit in the end.

Do you mean the gap around the alarm led.? I seem to recall it not being a good fit, a bit like they found a part which kind of fitted and went with it.

I have the same problem with mine, tried to snap the inner and outer pieces together, and sort of got it to work, provided I didn't hit it a crack with my elbow, then had to start all over again. It's holding so far. Skinned knuckles etc! :banghead:

Same problem on mine when I had the console out for respray although on earlier model it's just a tray which has no real use. Bottom plate fell inwards just after I had finished fastening everything up :banghead:. Managed to fish plate out and refix but admit I resorted to a blob of silicone sealant as `belt and braces'. Still in position 18 months later.

Silicone might have to be the way to go....

At least I know now that its not just me that cant seem to fit to simple pieces of plastic together. I was beginning to get worried :hungry::rolleyes:

Just looking at the pics below...my lower piece is currently facing this way down...

That's the right way I think? (imagine the handbrake would be sitting to the front of the half circle things.

It shouldnt be this way up....

right? :wideyed:

Just noticed this on line and looking at 19,20 & 21 I wonder am I missing a part? All I have is two pieces

I know that is the older arrangement with just the tray but I am guessing the arrangement in the facelift model is very similar if not identical?

Only recall 2 - you have 21 which is in your photos and either 20 if you have switches or 19 if it's just the tray. If you look at the narrative for 20 there are 2 versions for either 3 switch or 2 switch.

That makes sense...so I have 20 & 21; but they still don't fit together :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I also had endless amounts of fun trying to put mine back together, I think they are ment to sandwich and clip together with the console?? Just a rubbish design, I tried double sided tape but did not work either, mine is just sat in the hole and seems be stable for the moment, I lost patience and the will to live attempting to get it right.
If you find the right way to do it let us all in on the secret;)

Andy

I did manage to get mine back together after removing the console to fit the roll bar. I'm sorry but I can't remember how, although it did included skinned knuckles, that I do recall!

Tony.

Mines looks like a dogs dinner, scratched to hell, previously been stuck in with superglue (badly) and is currently held in place with a coffee stirrer (concealed). I think it's safe to say they are a sh#* fit!

I found the trick to getting these parts to click together was to remove all switches/lamps etc, attach string to the loom connectors that you need and feed the string through the backing plate and then the corresponding hole in the cover plate. With the string in place your fingers will not be fighting for space against the loom coming through the hole and you do not need to worry about dropping the loom down the hole.

The two parts that click together seemed to do so only when they both lined up with each other and were perfectly centred in the centre console hole, it is one of the most frustrating pieces of trim but will go back together, when you have achieved this your fingers will look like S%*t.

With the two pieces back together pull on the string to draw up the loom connector, disconnect the string and pop it back in to the switch/lamp, press the switch and/or lamp back in to the hole.

Give the trim pieces a but if a wiggle to make sure they have clicked together before removing the string and pushing the switch/lamp back nothing more frustrating that when you get to the last part and it pops back off!!!!!!!

Some lateral thinking, Brian - excellent!

I got so fed up with this I got an armrest just hide the bloody thing!

Brian is correct in approach, but also make sure the carpet is not getting stuck in between them, I found it needs to be lined up and clicked with one hand, bit of a knack to it but practice makes perfect, and you will have plenty of practice trying to do this ;)
