Hi all,
Looking at pics of the US cars like this:

Quite like that the indicator that comes on with the side lights.
Anyone done this to a Euro car? I imagine it involves a bit of auto electrics..

I know if you took the side light bulb out of my old e46 and put on the side lights the indicator came on like this to compensate

on having a side light out.

I've had the sidelight out on the Z and no such compensation for it like the e46...

Over here in North America, there is a dual filament bulb in that socket. I suppose you could custom wire one in by hijacking the power from the small side marker light in the bumper to power the low fillament. You would need the US style socket wiring though.

Thanks for that info. Will have to look into this US style socket- by that I take it you mean the socket wiring for the indicator? Or for the sidelight in the bumper?

Took some pics for you a few moments ago. The wiring/socket looks like it's just plug in to the harness. Check your existing one and if you see 3 wires going in and 2 coming out, you can just get a set of these and plug them into your existing harness, no splicing required.

That's great, thanks very kind of you. Will have a look!

Ps: is your car is blue on the inside and yellow on the outside? Wrap?

That's very kind of you, will let you know once I get a chance to look at the car.
I like the collection. His and hers or winter and summer versions?

:) Thanks. Actually they are both for me. I know I'm selfish. LOL They both get driven year round, however I reserve the Blue one for Z club events and trips. The Yellow one is more of a daily.

Our cars seem to be wired differently- yours shows 3 wires all the way through the loom and into the bulb holder.
Mine has just 2 (although the connectors on the loom has a hole for a 3rd wire).
I guess I'd need the US style bulb holder and dual filament bulb and and then take power from the bumper lights.

Dino, I may have a pair of bulb holders that would work for you. They came as the indicator bulb holders for something I had in the past. I will try to find them out for you.

Tony.

Ok. I'll take a picture of what I've got here. If they will work for you they're yours. Just pay postage.

Thanks guys, I'll glad pay postage for whichever holders I can make work.

From my understanding all I'd need to do is get power from the bumper light to the holder via the 3rd wire in a new holder (by splicing out a wire from the love wire).
Is it that simple or am I missing anything like need for relays etc (can you tell I'm no auto electrician!).

I like your style...!

Shouldn't need a relay, but you can always fit an inline fuse to be completely safe.

If your connector before the light socket wiring has 3 wires going into it (I couldn't really tell from your photo because the tape covers the wiring on the car end) you shouldn't have to do any wiring except for plugging in the 3 prong connector harness. You shouldn't have to introduce any relay or fuses into the system.

It has 2 wires coming out from the car end although now you mention the tape I should peel it back and check if a 3rd wire is hidden in there.
It's likely the wire is in there somewhere as these cars come wired for everything else already so seems strange to leave out this wire.

Hi Dino, had a look today and I couldn't find my bulb holders so I can't help after all. Sorry.:(

Tony.
