What is this weird rear spring spacer ?

So, this was done by a previous owner... and based on the condition of this weird spacer... many year ago.

It is coming out when I get this all apart to drop the subframe.

BUT... why the hell would someone do this ? attempt to raise the ride height and ghetto fix camber ?

* I am dropping it all out to install the camber/tow adjustment kit.

AND... this car is in canada.... where everything rusts... except this car. I don't it has seen snow, or even much rain for that matter.

The only thing it will do is rise the ride height, unless there’s a rust hole on the plate and is an attempt to spread the load but I doubt the latter. Are the springs original? Maybe swapped out for something too soft and was bottoming out??

There is like 0 rust on this car, so I doubt it is for that . likely the ride height. the rear shocks were shot when I got it... that was the first thing I did to it.

springs look OEM. but since I have never owned another one, and based on the fact that the shocks I replaced were OEM.... I'll go with stock springs. there is nothing else that is non-stock on this car.

I may put new ones in when I put it all together... but when I was driving it before the winter, it did not sag at all. ( with new shocks that is ).

trailing arm is out so far. the spring spacer looks like a 5 year old made it.

that is NOT going back in when i put it all back together.

Better off with the std upper and lower spring pads. Previous owner was probably too tight to buy thicker spring pads to rise the ride height.
