That article isn't desperately helpful as later Zeds switched to fly-by-wire. Below is a diagram of the earlier mechanism for the 2.8. I can only see one spring on it...

If you compare that to my 2001 2.2 with fly-by-wire throttle you can see the difference in design. Again only one spring to be seen.

So, it would have been helpful if the guy put up some more information about which Zed he had really. I'm thinking he had an early 2.8, so would be the first assembly.
 
It's an odd one...for both you would kind of think the spring is necessary to give some firmness to the pedal. So removing it just seems like a weird thing to do :shifty:
