Hello Each,

Can anyone tell me what this is, please. I've looked through the user manual and the schematic of what's under the bonnet but can't find any reference to this bit of kit. Thanks

That is a secondary air pump, that is only (as far as I am aware) necessary for Californian emission restrictions. It is only active for the first minute or two when the engine is cold started. It can be removed and a blanking plate can be installed over the hole, no error codes induced by removal.

I may not be 100% correct about everything but I am sure someone will correct me if I am not. The bits I am sure of it that I have removed mine and it hasn’t caused any problems

Doesnt matter if you keep it or not. Better keep it if its not broken. But even if you get rid of it trust me it has zero effect other than slightly less emissions on very low temperatures.

Understood, point taken and thank you. It used to be in France that the Controle Technique (MOT) was every two years and generally quite relaxed on the age and shape of the vehicle (particularly in rural areas with limited public transport) But recently introduced reg's require vehicles now over ten years old to be checked every year, and the emission control requirements seem to be far more vigorous; so I'll play it safe on this.

Generally speaking we do seem to fare better in France on motoring running costs; fuel is a little cheaper and still no road tax (yet).
