Wheel fitting query

Offset and width are normally stamped onto the wheel somewhere. They are 18" according to the tyres, easiest way if you have them is to try one on the car.

You are best to find the offset first then, going by the tyre sizes the width should be within the normal limits, probably around 8J but 18's similar to this are normally fitted with a 225/40 tyre not 225/45 which means the sidewall is larger and probably why its rubbing on the arch. Are they genuine BMW wheels?

the offset is the ET number, in this case - 38. the width is the J number which says 8.5 (though i dont know how you get inches in decimal:whistle:)

i think my offset should be 47, i did run a set that were 36 and they felt dangerous. currently my fronts are 47 offset (225/40/18) and the rear is 50 offset (255/35/18) this runns fine.

Hmmmm, i'm unsure what to do now. I will go and get the rears off after and see what is stamped in those. Was hoping to get them on mine at weekend but not sure if it' a good idea now.

to be honest, when i brought my 36 offset wheels they had half worn tires on them which i didn't change, this may or may not have made a difference.

Mine are 225/40/18 8.5J ET41 front and 255/35/18 same fitment on the rears. The fronts are tight but all fits and runs fine. I'm lowering 30mm shortly so am a little nervous of if they will fit then. Couple of forum technical geezers think they should still be OK. If not they may come up for sale in favour of some 17"s.

They will be tight, same as @Grumpy's but will sit 4mm further out due to the difference in offset. You need to get the backs off to see what they say also. It will also make a difference on whether you have a narrow or wide body zed. As you have them in your possession the best way is to stick them on and you will be able to find out, different if your looking at buying a set unseen.
