Where can I buy wheels?

@Casamolino39 what wheels are these on your car?

Thank you IainP for that link to Imagewheels.

Anyone want to buy me a set of these - I won't say what they cost . . OK I will. +3K a set. Imagine if I bought them and kerb'd one I'd be in tears at the side of the road.

Finding a used set of steels and sending them to the bander is an idea though. But the X1 wheels is my 'plan B'

One of the links I sent was for a company doing banded steels which were £200ish a corner.

https://wheelmania.co.uk/ may also be able to help.
They can forge wheels to your design.
as seen frequently on Mat Armstrongs YouTube channel

Thanks. I'll go visit his utub channel - but get the missus to hide my credit cards because, I assume, "forged-to-my-design" will cost almost as much as the body kit.

Anyway. Maybe my idea of 17x7 isn't really going to work. Should be looking at 16x7 and tall tyres. something like this. I like the oval holes a bit like the original 507

This is a 3 series F30 wheel. ET31 so will push the rim out around 15mm which is good. But not sure about the bolt holes. 5x120 but I think Z3 bolts might be fatter? Not too expensive. Might buy just one, see if it fits. Stick a tyre on it, 205/65 and see if I like it. Tyre that size will reduce the wheel arch gap by 20mm and give a 6% speedo error - but, as said already, my speedo is 6% out anyway so it'll be spot on... er... m'lud

Would these work?

Would these work?

The ET is 47 so you could add a spacer to move the wheel out. The seller lowers the price for buying 2 or more. A Google search reveals cheaper prices

If you are interested. I have a set of 15" BMW wheels like those, but they are at Classic Coachworks. I paid £750 for five, but they didn't fit over the M calipers. There are centre spinners for four of the wheels. I assume that CC haven't sold them, as I've not been told. Two of the wheels have 60 profile 245 tyres on them, but they are scrap, as far as I'm concerned. I think they came off an E-Type that raced around Goodwood. The tyres are OK, but the profile will be too tall for our cars.

Contact CC if you are interested.

I think you’re overthinking it.
The original 507 had 185 tyres, I saw one at Goodwood. I’ve seen two replicas at shows this year and they screamed replica from a distance as soon as I saw the tyres.
There are BMW steel wheels 6.5” x 16”, I think et 31, or 33, I can’t remember which. 3series, mostly I think. Mine had one as a spare, maybe 2006?
The recommended wheel for a 185 tyre is 6-6.5” width.
From Powerdog:
A 185 tyre is +10% speed error, 185/70 is +5% error.

Over thinking. Maybe

We know that way back in 60's wheels were much smaller and slimmer.

I'd be happy with 185 or 195 tyres (not low profile) but just haven't been able to find wheels I like.

The reason I was thinking of 17" wheels is because the real 507 is a very sleek slim car and the wheels look BIG.

The tribute body kit, on the other hand, looks like it's eaten all the pies. It's quite a tall chunky body. I'd like to get something like that 507 look by using bigger wheels.

I want taller tyres to fill the humongous arches.
I want ET so the taller tyres clear the suspension.

The car I saw was on radials, 185-16
It def wasn’t a replica.

There’s loads of 6.5”x16” BMW steels on ebay
Though you do have to sort through all the space savers.

Correct. 6.00x16 (the old crossply description) is close to modern 185x16 I think most people who want to use their car daily would use modern radial tyres.

BTW thank you for the links. That 2nd one is v interesting. I've been searching on and off for months and didn't see that. So many that I can't see the wood for the trees. Thanks.

I used bmw winter steel wheels. The offset is slightly more than original and the ‘rim dish’ looks just right to me.
im sure I saw some with the oval holes when I looked around, but wanted the round holes on mine.

Are you using spacers?

Same wheel bolts?
There are no spacers and original 12mm bolts will fit.
Due to my centre caps needing a very unusual bolt fitting (Vw) I had to have VW bolts machined. Down from 14mm to 12mm threads to fit.
you should have no issues though

I've ordered one of the F30 steel wheel (oval holes). I'll put a tyre on it and see what I think.

I'm going to re-read your build thread to see what you did with the spinners.
