Widebody Conversion

Still no luck!

The alignment is better when I mount it on those 4 clips and pull the bumper back but can't get the bumper carrier to line up with the mounting point on the chassis.

The bumper is too far back when it is on those clips and it doesn't quite line up with the front of the rear quarter.

I've even taken the rear bumper shock absorbers off to see if they are different but they share the same P/N as the 2.8 models.

Now left scratching my head...

To my untrained eye this looks like a pre-facelift wing:

Would massively appreciate if anyone on here can give me some measurements for a facelift and pre-facelift widebody rear wings?

The next step is to source a new wing and bumper which is what I have been hoping to avoid!

They are carrying on with the rest of the car in the meantime.

Hope you get to the bottom of it soon Faheem.

Tony.

Thanks Tony, hope you and Shirl are well.

Always frustrating when a seemingly simple task ends up this way!

Faheem, not sure if you have checked the part number, but according to Realoem the bumper cover for a pre-facelift 2.8 should be one of these.

Thanks! This was one of the first things I checked.

Unfortunately the P/N on the back of the bumper doesn't go into realoem and when I asked my local BMW dealer they said those markings are usually manufacturer numbers rather than BMW part numbers.

I have the following part number on the back of my bumper

Just tried that part number in Google and it only comes up with results from Europe & USA. I wonder if it's from a left hand drive and they could have different specs from RHD. The wings could be as well if they're all from the same seller. Longshot I know, but not beyond the realm of possibilities!

Managed to find the car the panels came off, it's an old thread and its the only picture I have been able to find of the panels still on the car.

I think it is safe to assume that it is a RHD and a pre facelift.

Which leads me to think something else isn't quite the same between the narrow body and wide body. Possibly on the chassis.

Oh well, worth a guess. Hope you get to the bottom of it Faheem.

There’s no difference in the shells.
I converted mine, even pretty much thrown on the panels line up.
I can take a pic, but it’ll be very late tonight.

This is the early bumper with the 1.9 wing, just to check it would fit and align with the light.

This is the width difference.

Thanks @IainP yes that would be appreciated but no rush.

Here are the latest pictures from the bodyshop, although it looks better than before it still isn't perfect.

I'm going over tomorrow to see if I there is any play in the plastic slider bracket to try and force the bumper up a bit and if there's anything I can do to sort the now much smaller gap between the rear tail light and bumper.
