Will Dustless Brake Pads cause your discs to glaze over?

About 18 months ago I fitted some dustless brake pads http://akebonobrakes.com/euro and have now found that 3 out of 4 wheels now have their brake discs glazed over and I do not know if the two are related of not. As far as I know, they are the original discs which came on my Z3 2.8 when it came from the factory in 1998.
I live in Hong Kong where there no long drives and my journeys are All short between half and one hour about 3 or 4 times per week (Zero if raining). I have just ordered a set of 4 new OEM discs. I really like the dustless pads as I have wire wheels so the importance of them is obvious!. Any thoughts ?

Hi Peter,

Never heard of discs glazing over, certainly had and seen pads glazing over and losing their efficiency. Usually find discs get pitted and scored with wear over time due to exposure to elements and lack of use this can be made worse. I understand the weather out there can be kinder to bare metal parts but conversly shorter journeys will probably shorten their life considerably however if your discs are indeed the originals I think that is incredible and wouldn't complain too much.

As far as dustless pads go the EBC kevlar pads are supposed to be very low dust combined with really good performance so a set of yellows or reds might be a good choice.

I would expect the glaze on your discs is coming from the binding materials used when mfg the pads and being deposited on the disc. It sounds to me that your brakes don't get much heavy braking which normally would create heat that would vaporize the contaminates. I'd suggest contacting the mfg and see what they can come up with. This doesn't happen often as far as I know and as @Aceman says it's usually glazing of the pads not the discs. Good luck! JIM
