Being new to BMW and this forum, can anybody tell me which workshop manual I should be getting for my 1999 Z3 2.0? Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the Bentley manual doesn't cover the 2.0 and the Haynes E36 manual only goes up to 1998. I am assuming that the M52B20 would have been fitted in other models, so any advice would be greatly welcomed!

I had been looking myself, but since joining the forum this is the only 'manual' I need.

But if you're like me it's nice to have a book to go to and I have accumulated quite a library of workshop manuals, mostly USA models mind you, but I've read my Manual by Bentley front to back at least a dozen times. JIM

And it has the same ending every time. I suppose its good to have a point of reference. I should know better really as I had to refer to aircraft manuals with ever job I did on an aircraft, as we had to sign off 'in accordance with' and a reference on the paperwork.

Yes, same ending every time but I find that by reading it through there are a lot of facts that stick in my head as I can sort out what I can see as a problem area ahead of actually working on a certain item which almost always involves another section of the book. Just the way I've always done it and also works with magazine articles as I have several hundred mags going back to the fifties, mostly hot rod and rod and custom. It's Amazing how what's new is really from years gone by just better products and tech info. JIM

I was intrigued as a kid with the innovations I found in the old mags by the racers of the twenties onward and it set me off on the journey that brought me to the Z3 and here. It's been quite a trip with a few hiccups but I find I'm still learning at least one thing new everyday off the forum and today one thing I learned was about your aircraft experience. Small bit of info but a door that has been opened. JIM

There isn't really anything which covers every permutation of Z3 sadly, but the Bentley is your best bet. The 2.0 engine is used across a wide range of BMW models so there is specific information available on those elsewhere, but it's not that different in design to the other 6 cyl engines of its time.

Thanks Gaz, I assumed that this might be the case. I shall get myself a Bentley manual but I might have to go and see my bank manager first!:coolsteer)
