Write off....no way !!!

After seeing the thread ‘Someone hit my Zed’ and the repair quote....This was the quote for repair on my car

When I saw this I was astounded as a lot of the parts were not even damaged.
I pushed the insurance company and ended up talking to the insurance assessor/engineer, and eventually I accepted an ‘in lieu’ payment from the third party insurers of £2204.00, and it was not subjected to a write off category. My insurance company were advised but were not involved and as such has had no impact on my insurance premium, although I found it cheaper through another source, that just happened to send me an email, and out of curiosity I got a quote.
The cost of the repair, which I listed everything to do with it on a spreadsheet inc. 2 van hires, deisel, tools, parts spraying, plus some parts that I changed because it was easier, ie waterpump, body fixings etc to date comes to
£1574.57. Admittedly there is no labour cost but I agree with @gookah , as it shows what a rip off it is and why premiums are so high.

The only good thing for me is that whats left in the pot will cover tax and insurance from Jan 1st, plus a new Roadster decal for the 3rd brake light and possibly a Roll hoop version wind deflector if I can find one.

OH NO.......!! :banghead:

Went out to put the code reader on the car this afternoon as everything engine wise has been reinstalled.

First problem, car wouldn’t start, and the starter motor clicking.....so could be the battery is a bit flat. To that end put it on charge and with all the charging leds lighting up seems to confirm it.
Just have to wait and try it later.

However with the ignition on there was a buzzing from the engine and it appears to be coming from the idler regulating valve on the the throttle housing assembly.

When the ignition is switched off, it remains buzzing for about 20 secs then stopped.
Is this normal??????

I did check with the code reader and there are no fault codes listed.

Yes. Normal. Don't panic Capn. Mainwaring .

Tony.

:) Just a flat battery luckily........Just started ok.
Back on charge again but its only a cheap old 4 amp Halfords one so think I had better invest in something better.

Also Noticed that the boot light not working ......but then it wouldn’t if there is no bulb in it :banghead:=))
I think I need to add a 12v 10w festoon to the shopping list.

Nice work @Mazza - glad all your hard work has paid off - what you put in you get back out!! Fact!!

Super work!!

Might be a reason behind that, may well be staying on and draining the battery so has been removed?

Funny you should say that, as I have been thinking why has it been removed.:nailbiting:
Going to check Fuse33 with a meter in the morning to see if its ok, and check that the switch located in the boot lock is working as it should. Also the continuity in the wiring. If all ok stick a bulb in see what happens.
Have to get one of the grandchildren round and put them in the boot to make sure it goes off when the lid is closed=))

Much easier to set your mobile to video record and put that in the boot instead Malc:thumbsup:. Don't want any child cruelty charges being brought against you=))

No don't bother wasting time chucking 'em in the boot Malc use your phone like Mint said and then you can use them for what they're really for, chimney cleaning:thumbsup:

no need to put your phone in the boot, just press the switch with the lid open

Yes Sean, that would prove the switch but not that the plunger was operating it correctly ;)

On a Z4 the switch is in the boot catch. When I put my battery conditioner on when we went on holiday I closed the catch with a screwdriver which shut off the boot light, then just lowered the boot down to the rubber seal.

Fuse 33 was blown....(worryingly WHY??? Has there been a wiring issue at some time.. ?), Anyway put a new one in and got 12volts at the bulb holder.
Need to get a new bulb, but before that, checked out the wiring and switch, which as it turned out to be ok.
For those that dont know how the boot light works ( which included me up to 10minutes ago)
The switch is located in the boot lock is activated by the stud next to the boot catch.

Which, when the boot shuts, pushes the plunger in the lock.

This just breaks the connection from the light bulb negative (brown/white) wire that goes to earth.
The positive side of the light (red/white) is a permanent live direct from Fuse 33.

That could be a valuable artefact in the future, I have some Woolworths staples that might be worth a fortune in years to come, or perhaps not!!
