I might be a bit blonde with my question. But here goes. I have noticed you can buy keys on eBay
BMW 3 5 7 Z3 E46 ETC REMOTE ALARM UNCUT KEY FOB
FREQ: 433.92MHz
3 BUTTON
LOCK UNLOCK & BOOT
+
UNCUT KEY BLADE

Is it possible to programme these keys for my car? If so where?

The problem is that you will struggle to find anybody to cut a key they haven't supplied.
 
@Low Rider Is this true? I have a friend that's a lock smith and I'm tempted to ask him whether he'll cut a generic key as I too need a spare, after I've lost my only other spare.

As far as I'm aware. I have spoken to Timpsons and was told only keys sold by them will be cut.
Why not ask your friend
 
@Paul M if you were to insert this key into your car and attempt to open it what would happen? It doesn't have a transponder but I just wondered what that would mean? Will it allow you to open the doors or prevent all access to the car?

I can do everything but start the engine.open doors etc. I can turn the key in the ignition, lights come on but does not start it.
 
I purchased a key from a Zed that had been scrapped with a transponder and a blank key from eBay but never got round to trying the used key as a remote key before swopping the transponder to the blank.
 
The generic key cost £5. I'm sure where I got it cut they would cut a blank transponder key. But how do you re program it?
