Z4 Owners - Potential fault (2007-2011)

Can't understand BM's stance on this. Did they think that because you could steer and brake you would be able to get out of trouble when tootling down the outside lane of a busy 4 lane motorway at night. Numpties.
This is one of the things I have to say they do better in the US - class action lawsuits which now sees manufacturers do recalls on their car sold there but nothing to the same car sold in the UK.
According to this report on the BBC today http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-44050686 there will now be a recall of c ertain Z4s.
2007/2011 Z4 I believe.
That's 4.5 years worth of Z4's.

BBC Watchdog programme on fault was a bit un-nerving on several points especially if car is parked near to your house. They gave a helpline number but guess what ` your call is in queue.............' - they don't say how many thousands are in the queue.
Maybe I missed something, but, it’s only a recall. Lots of cars have them. No need to panic.
While a fault might have been the root cause, it was essentially an avoidable accident. The same circumstances could have arisen for a million and one reasons. There may be a real fault at the bottom of it, but, would the same action have been taken if it was a cam belt broken? The consequences were tragic but a driver failed to consider what we were all taught to do and that is be able to stop in the distance you can see.
Many years ago had a 400A mega fuse blow driving down a hill on a narrow lane directly towards the beach and sea. No reason for it happening but the fuse did what it was intended to do. All of a sudden, a massive bang, then - no engine, no electrics, little steering, little brakes, the smell of burning going down hill towards the sea with two kids in the car and other drivers following us wondering what on earth was happening. In the end, the car was stuck there for some considerable time in the dark on an unlit road. Virtually identical circumstances.

Considering there is a dedicated Z4 forum this issue on a E85/E86/E89 has not really been raised before now and they are sticklers for posting up any issues they have. So i doubt this is any more dangerous than when it suddenly goes into limp mode when a serious issue occurs or on any other major engine failure
Didn’t but, I bet there was a great deal of sensational things brought up.
BMW I’m sure do the same as every other manufacturer.
Did they explain the exact cause of the problem?
