Mr Brennan? Any ideas on if a common part to roadster & coupe?
In agreement with Mazza

One of the straps is common across all (16111185025), then the other (
16111185032) is for USA cars and the M european cars. I think I have these in my storage from BMW so will post a picture later

Can I still order some please? thanks

Hi Mario, no problem, once prototypes checked and tried, I will order 100 sets initially, then if demand is there, have another batch made.

I don't think your going to have much trouble with a demand for these

I have this week after a few meetings with a local company, signed on the dotted line, and placed an order for the manufacture of a prototype pair of straps.
I have had an order acknowledgement and they are scanning a standard set which I located and bought, and which are almost pristine, so dimensions should be acurate.
The new ones that are being produced will be a form, fit and function replacement, made from thicker mild steel, and finished in a black powder coat and supplied with the foam cushioning, but each one as a two part strap.
Once I have the prototypes, I will do comparitive weight tests and also try them out on my car to ensure that they can be fitted without the need to remove the rear beam/axle assembly. ( which is the whole point of this)

I know from previous posts that there has been a fair bit of interest in this, so if all goes well, I am thinking of ordering a production batch of 100 sets.

I’ll upload pictures of the prototypes once I have them.
Hi I would be interested in a pair. How are you progressing with this?

I am currently in the process of stripping my car down so I can use it to check the prototype fitting and looking to get a production batch made in a couple of months

This one, I had to modify a touch by tightening up two of the bends....but again it has fitted

So that is a good result.....
.I will be getting in touch with the company I have been working with next week and, after talking to @Bazza and various people at the Zedsheds, will be getting a couple more prototypes done in a thinner material.

I can also refit the beam and check the clearances where the studs are, to make sure there are no tolerance issues, or installation problems.

You are a star Mazza. They looks the dog's whatsits. I shall order a set just as soon as they are ready.
Mike

These look great.

I’ll be ordering 2 sets

Malc, looks great:thumbsup: as suspected, new they would fit well done.

Looking good Malc, these will fly off the shelf:thumbsup:

Looking like OEM. A superb effort and a lot of Zed owners will be thankful for your hard effort in getting these made. Looking forward to buying two sets for the zeds.

I have a meeting tomorrow so thought I had better go armed with information, so did some checking today.
Firstly I put the beam back on the studs so I could check all the clearances around the the straps. Happy to find that plenty of room, to be able to get to the nuts on the larger strap.

This rev B strap fitted but there are a couple of issues. Underneath the lowest part of the tank it needs a bit more clearance. Probably a couple of mm as there is a rubber gasket to fit on top of the strap.

Also at the rear of the strap it needs to be slightly closer to the tank.

This is easy enough to sort, just means reducing the length between the two bends.

On the smaller of the straps....
Its a bit difficult to see, but the strap is in place with the rubber cushion on it and no clearance issues as far as I can see.

One thing that I did spot today was that the BMW straps I took off my car are different to the BMW straps I picked up a while back. It looks like the design was changed to possibly give more support to the tank.

This was the same on both straps. The hook end wasn't altered.

NB The new two piece replacement straps are based on the later version.
