Thank you for the replies...Would I be able to get a rubber mallet up and under if I remove the plastic lining-or no space?

At the very least you will have restricted access, so I doubt it.

Unless you can beat it out yourself. And fill/skim it and paint it yourself it'd be cheaper and always quicker to look for a replacement.
