Just wondered if ant one has had a similar problem with the electric seat adjuster. The passanger side hasn't worked since we had the car so its been to the garage but as yet they can't find the problem, they have said the two motors and the switch are ok. Had to book it back in for next week as they ran out of time.

A very nice offer Brian. You're a gent.

Tony.

Usually cos the drive gears have jammed on.

Have a read through this and search for seat motors on the search on the forum

Edit

I you get no joy and fancy a drive down to near Leicester at the weekend I can help you have a look.
Thanks Brian thats a very kind offer that i might take you up on if it can't be cured at the garage as its booked in for Monday next week. When we got the car back the seat was set right back, before that it was about 3/4 back covering front and rear fixing bolts so i assume the mechanism is ok. The mechanic thinks it's a wiring fault as when you put a new fuse in it blows straight away before you even move the switch.

Def sounds as if the motors are working but if it blows the fuse either a short circuit or motors taking too much current (both the same thing) therefore the drive gear is seized causing the motor to overload. motors need disconnecting from their drives and try to turn the spindles with a spanner enough to move the seat off the mounting bolts and then it can be lifted out and given a good lubrication.

Thanks i'l mention that when i take it back to the garage. So it may not be a wiring problem ? The seats have been out because they replaced the seat bushes while it was there so i assume they'd have checked the drive gear, but may be they didn't :meh:

If they have had the seats out I would think maybe something done ther as to get the front fixings off the seat has to be nearly all the way back and to get at the rear fixing the seat has to be all the way forward. So if the seat is now jammed back that is where they left it when refitting the front fixings.

Check things not on list???

At the risk of sounding stupid, when you say check things not on the list, what do you mean...and thanks for being patient ;)

Apologies @Steven Bostock I was being sarcastic about some technicians who only do what is on their piece of paper to do.

I've seen main dealer technicians when servicing and changing pollen filters which are often under the front panel near the wipers just move the accumulated leaves around rather than remove them. Just had a lift engineer go to a lift after a breakdown and missed one side of the brake wasn't working.

So if lubricating the seat mechanism wasn't part of the seat guides it wouldn't be looked at. I'm very cynical in my old age.

Keep asking questions and we will always help and my offer is still there.

No worries,i know what you mean Brian i'v also heard main dealer horror stories, such as not even changing the oil/filter on long life service intervals even the 20k service :meh:. A few months back i picked up some gas safety inspection work,90 houses on one contract, the previous engineer wouldn't even top up the preasure on combi boilers which meant he'd get called out again just to turn a valve to top it up and no doubt charged for a call out...i wonder why he lost the work. Thank you for offer to help me get it sorted you're a gent :D

Our contingent of ex- Halfords "Technicians" also work with this principle that it's "Not in for that" and if it comes back there is more bonus to be had. Not the way I like to work, but then I'm a dinosaur these days.

Tony.

Went into Halfords the other day for some pipe joiners and a vernier gauge and some drill bits, I asked the assistant and clueless would be a understatement, I even showed him a pipe joiner I already had and asked if they had any and he said he didn't know but If they had any in the store it would be on there website :o when asking about the vernier gauge he said again If I look on there website It would tell me If they have it in store........ I just stared at him TBH because I was at a loss, so what happened when I asked if they had any drill bits? I said anything small like 3 or 5mm will do and he turned to the cabinet with the tools where we were stood and looked at the screwdriver bits and turned to me and said "what size did you want?" the mrs gave him one of them looks only a woman can and we walked out.

A couple of years ago we went to the large W.S.M store to buy a cd player for the car, after finding a nice one we liked we asked the assistant If we could have one and he said we have one in stock and if we came back the next day he'd get it for us :o I explained we lived 15miles away and could we have it now and he said he didn't have time to go looking for it.... true story!

Bloody ell! It's incredible reading these things but you know there true because its just the Same in our Halfords! Went in to buy a new sat nav recently and said I wanted one with itenary planning. He didnt have a scooby doo what I was going on about!

It's the same the world over guys. I needed to fit an industrial kitchen faucet and needed to expand the copper pipe to mate the fitting I had. Went to one of the biggest stores who have everything. Spoke to a fellow in plumbing and knew this was going nowhere when his eyes glazed over. As I was leaving another fellow asked if he could help. Told him the problem and he walked over and handed me just what I wanted. The other fellow was still mumbling something about inventory being moved around and ...... JIM

I get my "cheaper" tools, drill bits etc from Screwfix. They have shops everywhere and are open 7 days. Most importantly, they usually understand what I'm asking for

X2 for this and also ToolStation.
The amount of stuff they carry boggles and almost always cheaper by some margin than other retailers.
Their websites are good and have click and collect service.
I also pop in the local hardware store when I can, only one left now here..

My Zed has been back in to garage today so they could have another crack at rectifying my seat problem. Got a call from them at half five today saying it's looking like it's a part inside the seat that is connected to the adjuster switch,a small assembly with 3 wires on it. They got a price from Sytner's in Derby......£201 PLUS vat:eek: and said if that doesn't do it,it may be the switch :meh:. I contacted Spurs fan in a coupe last week but has no seat parts at the mo. Any one have any ideas ?
